Description: ER430 stainless steel welding wire is a welding material specially used for welding 17% chromium ferritic stainless steel. Due to its good corrosion resistance and wear resistance, it is used in some specific occasions.
Applications: Welding 10Cr17 (SUS430) and other materials, commonly used in wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant occasions, such as guardrails, golf heads, silencer system components, food and medical equipment components, etc.
一: Compliance with standards:
China: GB/T 29713 S430.
USA: AWS A5.9 ER430.
Europe: EN ISO 14343-A-G (17).

二: Welding parameter reference:
ER430 welding wire can be used for different processes such as MIG/MAG, TIG and SAW, and the parameters need to be adjusted accordingly.
① MIG/MAG welding (DC reverse connection DC+):
● Shielding gas: It is recommended to use a mixture of Ar + (1~3)% O₂.
● Gas flow rate: 20-25 L/min recommended.
● Stickout length: Typically 15-25 mm.
● Reference welding current:
– Φ0.8mm: 70-150 A
– Φ1.0mm: 100-200 A
– Φ1.2mm: 140-220 A
– Φ1.6mm: 180-300 A (flat and horizontal); 180-250 A (vertical and overhead)
② TIG welding (AC or DC positive):
● Shielding gas: Use pure Ar.
● Gas Flow Rate:
–For currents of 100-200A: 9-14 L/min
–For currents of 200-300A: 14-18 L/min
● Reference Welding Current:
–For 1.6mm Φ: 50-100 A
–For 2.0mm Φ: 100-200 A
–For 2.5mm Φ: 200-300 A
–For 3.2mm Φ: 300-400 A
三: Usage Precautions
When using ER430 welding wire, pay special attention to the following points:
①: Pre-welding Cleaning: Thoroughly remove rust, moisture, oil, dust, and other impurities from the weld area.
②: Windbreaks: When welding outdoors, if wind speeds exceed 1.5 m/s (MIG) or exceed 1.0 m/s (TIG), windbreaks must be implemented to prevent the formation of gas holes.
③: Interpass Temperature Control: When welding ferritic stainless steel, controlling the interpass temperature (for example, no more than 150°C) helps prevent excessive grain growth, thereby maintaining good joint performance.
④: For TIG welding of critical components or single-sided welding with double-sided forming, it is recommended to apply argon shielding to the back of the weld to achieve better back-forming and prevent oxidation.
⑤: Heat Input Control: Carefully control the welding heat input. Excessive heat input may affect the mechanical properties and crack resistance of the weld metal.
⑥: Post-weld Heat Treatment: For certain demanding applications, post-weld heat treatment (such as annealing) may be required to optimize the corrosion resistance and toughness of the weld.
四: Safety Tips
When welding, always take personal protective measures, including wearing a mask, gloves, and protective clothing. Work in a well-ventilated environment and pay attention to fire and explosion prevention measures.
五. Summary
ER430 welding wire is a specialized and performance-matched consumable for welding 17% chromium ferritic stainless steels, such as the 430 series (10Cr17). Its corrosion and wear resistance complements that of the base metal.
