AWS A5.9: Comparison of ER307 and ER307Si

ER307 is an austenitic stainless steel welding wire, particularly suitable for welding dissimilar steels or where non-magnetic properties are required.

ER307Si is an austenitic stainless steel welding wire based on ER307 with the addition of silicon (Si). It is primarily used in applications requiring excellent crack resistance and a non-magnetic weld.

The table below provides a quick comparison of the key differences between ER307 and ER307Si.

💡 Usage Precautions

When welding, pay special attention to the following points:

▶ Pre-weld cleaning: Be sure to thoroughly remove surface impurities such as oil, rust, and moisture from the weld area to prevent pores and cracks.
▶ Wind protection: When working outdoors, if wind speeds exceed 1.5 m/s, take wind protection measures to prevent pores.
▶ Energy input control:
ER307: Excessive or insufficient welding energy input will affect weld formation and quality. Current and other parameters should be adjusted accordingly.
ER307Si: Avoid excessive welding energy input. Use a lower heat input and control the interpass temperature (e.g., ≤150°C).
